Path

I have just arrived in Sydney from London.

Creative Process

When approaching a design problem or project I use a simple process that splits a project into three main parts.

Observation

Insight

Strategy

Branding Workshop

When approaching a  branding based problem I try to walk a client through a process which allows them to see their brand from a different perspective. I use a series of interview questions to direct clients through their planned new direction.

Projects & Past Work

I have worked over the last 4 years on a range of university led briefs, design workshops and smaller commissions for clients.

The range of work I have produced and that you will see here is the result of a designer, thinker maker exploring ways to use design as a way of interacting with topics, situations and problems.

My most resent work has been on developing a collaborative consumption model for high idle products. Based on an observation that we don’t necessary need to own many items  but we need to access their functions I had the insight that we could share our items through an existing  CC service that is struggling to ascertain its value in modern society. Namely the Library.  I picked up an RSA award for my proposal.

  • + THE NATIONAL TRUST - CAMPAIGN - D&AD

D&AD run an award scheme called new blood where young designers get the chance to work on industry spec briefs. I choose to work on The National Trusts brief which asked entrants to find a way to engage the modern visitor with The Trust and shake the preconception that it is a place for the elderly and highly cultured.

    Observation

We all like the idea of The National Trust however for the majority of young people there isnt enough of an incentive.

    Insight

The National Trust is host to some of the biggest film and TV productions and it makes little or no deal of it.

  •  + RSA COLLABORATIVE CONSUMPTION (WINNER 2014)

    RSA AWARDS 2014 - Insight & Observation

I recently won the RSA award for the Collaborative consumption brief for a service that allows members of the public to access and borrow high idle products through local libraries.

    Insight:

    - There are many products we rarely use in our homes

    - There is a growing issue of austerity

    - There are products we don’t need to own but

occasionally need to have access to.

Libraries offer a collaborative consumption service that expands from books and information but to practical goods and products that could make an impact a local communities welfare and allow a society to curb an era of overconsumption.

  •  + _ING 2014 - A DEGREE SHOW

In June we, as a class, hosted a degree show at The Candid Arts Trust. The show brought us all together in one space and showcased some of the talent we have in our studio.

To be a part of a course that has collected 5 D&AD Awards and 3 RSA Awards was inspirational. The review of the course on Creative Review was the icing on the cake to what has been an amazing experience.

  • + WIKIHOUSE - INTERACTIVE POSTERS

  •     + RBL STUDIO REFIT & WORKSHOPS

Over the summer of 2014 I was working at a RBL a design and branding studio. Over the course of my time there I worked on the move of their studio to a new office including the planning, interior design and much of the actual refurbishment.

On the side, I was asked to input into a number of projects and had the opportunity to shadow the creative director for 2 months.

I was a part of the team working on the re-brand for a new coffee shop called Coffee Architects as well as contributing to some internal design projects such as the visual thinking tasks I was asked to curate.

  •  + SUPERGROUP - DESIGN THINKING & IDEA GENERATION

In my final year at Kingston I was asked to join in with a design discussion panel called Supergroup. This group of design students, tutors and a client sits down in a series of workshops to explore new ways of thinking on a clients issues.

We worked with BuBu, the bookbinders, on a series of workshops designed by Kieren O'Connor. We were using a distilling process to allow for the exploration of ideas around the topic of books and their readers.

The second workshop was hosted by NHS England and The Supergroup were exploring issues with Data protection its use and misuse as well as other future visions for a national health service.

  •  + WIKIHOUSE  3D POSTER

The Wikihouse is an open source downloadable housing solution from 00:/ Architects and Alistair Parvin.

After completing my dissertation on the topic and interviewing Alistair I wanted to see if I could create a piece of communication for the project using their ethos and design principles.

Hello,

I am a creative, designer, maker and thinker who has just moved to Sydney looking to get involved with the creative industries.

Having spent the last 4 years training as an agile, mutlipurpose creative thinker with a variety of technical skills. I find it hard to define what I am and can do but what I do know is that I have a variety of skills that given the right environment can be honed and pushed to make a really effective and creative  contribution to almost any project.

THANK YOU
