Josh Dean MP has committed to holding engagement sessions with residents in Hertford and Stortford to discuss the issue of assisted dying. This comes ahead of a potential vote in the House of Commons on legislation to be introduced by Kim Leadbeater MP.
Josh Dean MP said:
“Residents will have seen the news last week that Kim Leadbeater MP is to introduce legislation to the House of Commons on assisted dying through a private members bill. I am conscious that this is an important and emotive issue, and one on which many residents in our community will have deeply held views.”
“It’s been nearly ten years since MPs last had the opportunity to vote on assisted dying legislation and I welcome this opportunity to look at it afresh. As our MP, I will treat this issue with the sensitivity and respect that it deserves.”
“I want to engage with as many residents as possible ahead of a potential vote later this year. That’s why I plan to hold a series of engagement sessions in the constituency, listening to our residents’ views on the potential legislation.”
“I’ll be holding my first engagement session in Bishop’s Stortford next Friday. Residents can book an appointment by emailing josh.dean.mp@parliament.uk. This is an opportunity to share your views on assisted dying in a face-to-face setting. However, residents are also very welcome to share their views with me by email, and I would encourage them to do so.”
