As our Member of Parliament, I represent you and everyone else in Hertford and Stortford, whether you voted for me or not. My power lies in Parliament, where I can debate, ask questions of Government Ministers, and vote on legislation. On all matters outside of Parliament, I am happy to make enquiries and raise issues on your behalf, however, please note that my role as an MP does not give me authority over Government departments, our County, District or Town and Parish councils, or other public organisations.
Please note that due to strict Parliamentary protocol, I am only able to make enquiries on behalf of my own constituents. To check if you live in my constituency, check your MP here.
What I can do:
Give you mine and the Government's view on current political issues and Bills in Parliament.
Raise issues with relevant Government departments and ask for change where appropriate.
Raise personal issues you are facing with relevant Government departments, local councils or other organisations and press for action.
What I can't do:
I do not have the power to instruct the Government, local authorities or other public organisations.
Introduce legislation as a matter of course. The Parliamentary agenda is decided by the Government.
Conduct investigations on your behalf. These should always be carried out by the appropriate Adjudicators and Ombudsmen.
