"Investment, investment, investment": Josh Dean MP welcomes Labour Budget to fix the foundations and deliver change for Hertford and Stortford.

Josh Dean MP today (Wednesday 30th October 2024) welcomed

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves’ Budget announcement to fix the foundations of

our economy to deliver change for people in Hertford and Stortford.

This Budget turns the page on the last 14 years of failed Conservative policies, delivering

change with a Labour government that will invest in Britain’s future, fix the NHS, and rebuild our

country. It takes the tough decisions necessary on tax, spending and welfare to restore Britain’s

economic stability by cracking down on fraud, tax avoidance and waste, and making sure every

penny of taxpayer money is spent wisely.

Josh Dean MP said:

“This Budget represents the start of a new chapter for our country: not just the first Labour

Budget in 14 years, but the first in our country’s history to be delivered by a woman. It invests in

Britain’s future and takes the tough decisions necessary to deliver economic stability.”

“The Chancellor is supporting working people by increasing the National Living Wage and

maintaining the fuel duty freeze, fixing public services with an extra £25.6 billion over two years

for the NHS and recruiting 6,500 teachers by increasing the Core Schools Budget by £2.3 billion

next year, and boosting public investment by over £100 billion over the next five years.”

“This Labour government is protecting the payslips of working people here in Hertford and

Stortford, fulfilling our manifesto commitment not to increase National Insurance, the basic,

higher, or additional rates of Income Tax, or VAT on working people.”

“This Budget marks the first step in making people in our community better off: more pounds in

your pocket, an NHS that’s there for you when you need it, and businesses creating wealth and

opportunity for all.”

“This government is taking the long-term decisions we need to fix our NHS and public services,

grow our economy and rebuild Britain.”
